I had heard about this movie coming out a while back and it sounded quite interesting. I had played at some North American film festivals and had received some great reviews so I always kept an eye on it. Finally, the DVD was scheduled to be released in Japan on April 20th, 2007. I marked down the date in order to get the DVD. Well, time came around, and I actually had the DVD by April 19th my time (thanks to time zone differences). I had read a synopsis of the plot so I had a basic understanding of what to expect, so I watched the entire movie unsubtitled (which is sometime I never do). I ended the movie being extremely moved and thought-provoked. It left me asking myself questions about life, fate, time. One of those "what does it all mean?" kind of evenings. Thusly, I was absolutely striken with an incredible urge to take all of these thoughts and build a video around it.......... in one day.

It just so happened that the deadline for Anime Central's AMV contest was April 20th. So, I determined that if I could get a video done by Midnight, I could still make the deadline. So nearly immediately after I had finished watching it, I was ripping it and preparing it to be edited. I decided my song in very little time since I had been listening to the album a lot lately and the song just instantly had that "perfect" feeling to it. During the ripping process, I started working in Photoshop to get some "text textures" made up for my opening (as you will see in the video).

I did get some sleep that night but as soon as I woke up I immediately set about editing. I was very determined and motivated and thusly my drive to edit was top notch. In the end, I was able to finish my entire video by the end of the night, encode it, and have it uploaded by 3am (only 3 hours late... What?...).

I can say with great ease that this is my personal favorite video of mine.. I was VERY very pleased with the final outcome and it conveyed basically everything I wanted to say. To put it simply, I absolutely love this video. This isn't something I can easily say about every one of my videos, even ones that I am very proud of.

So yeah. I really hope you watch this video and think more than just "Woooo what a pretty new movie!" (not that that's bad. It is indeed a pretty movie and I hope that this spurs many people to see it). I hope the video makes you think about the questions it asks and gives you a sense of reflection about what fate and time mean to you (And yes, I realize this is all sounding horribly pretentious. I just don't know any other ways to eloquently put it).

    NOTE about the LOCAL version:
The local version of this video is an x264 encoded MP4 file. This is the higer quality/higher resolution version of the video. If you have trouble playing it back, download the Combined Community Codec Pack and then play it back in Media Player Classic (comes packaged with CCCP, and is a very handy, lightweight player. It's my default playback software).
