Time spent editing video: Too much

This video started out as a "hey I'm bored" project, because I was getting into a slump with the other AMV I was working on at the time. I eventually abandoned that one to give this one more time and effort, as I decided that the other was getting too obsessed with its effects and losing focus. Looking back on it now, the other one was also kind of lame. >.>

Because this project was mostly off the top of my head as I worked on it, each successive version was much different than the one previous for quite a while. It eventually started coalescing around something of a theme (sort of...) echoed in the lyrics, and I started being able to work on getting everything more precise thanks to that; of course, I had a lot of help from my friends too. XD

In most areas I was much more worried about the feel of "moving" through the video than I was about what kind of sync was going on; in order to do that I tried to keep effects and transitions either very limited, or very smooth. It was a lot more work than I was expecting, because pretty much every scene change meant about eight iterations (minimum) of editing, but I think the results were what I was aiming for.

Technically, I ended up keeping the video rather simple. Just about everything I did was velocity or pan/zoom related, then linear blurs and light rays where I needed a stronger transition effect. There is one instance of masking, but it's pretty elementary...I think that's about as complicated as the video got, effects-wise.

NOTE: The version that won Best Action at Ohayocon 2009 is a little more than six months older than the one that's posted here, so there are going to be differences...I just don't remember what they are (but I think most of them are in the ending). Either way, I think the video's better now. :P

SECOND NOTE: The indirect link is stupidly high quality H264, the local download is pretty low quality XviD (and lower audio quality), but has the advantage of being more than five times smaller.
