  • Comments: This the video I created during the first Sakuracon Iron Editor competition. This is also the winning video. My competitor was Jennifer (aka Corpsegoddess). She had a very strong video as well. We had a really good turn out too. When we started the room wasn't filled up that much but 30-40min in, the place was packed. It was great. I think everyone enjoyed themselves.

Anyway, here's a little insight on the audio. I didn't want to just take any existing trailer and edit to that. I also didn't want to just grab some trailer audio without the dialog and edit to that either. So naturally, I decided to make my own. The rules of the competition specify that you can use any audio and that you can edit it. I started out looking at my sources and seeing what would work well with them, I search for some horror/comedy movies (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz...) and also some other movies I thought might work well. Eventually I ended up with whats in the video. I ended up spending a lot of time on the audio to get the way I wanted it. If the theme had been anything else, I don't think I would've spent so much time on it.

The rules allow the editors to make an edit list of sorts. Because I'm rather terrible at IC/IE's I thought I would take advantage of this. It definitely helped me during the competition but there was still a lot that I hadn't accounted for so I was rather nervous if I was going to finish the video. My biggest concern was the secret source and titles. In hindsight, I wish I had used the SS a little bit better, it feel like it's just filler. Also the titles are way too big. That said, during the competition, I really didn't want to spend too much time on them just in case I ran out of time.
