  • Comments: This is my first real NEW AMV in quite a while. My last few AMVs were either all old ideas I had on the backburner, or remasters/remakes of my older AMVs.

This AMV follows Vash and his conflict with his brother and shows how much of a heavy burden he carries. I had been listening to Devin Townsend's Lightwork a lot and knew I wanted to make an AMV with one of the songs from it. Initially I had a different idea using the song Dimensions and the anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners. But due to the contest rules not allowing songs longer than 5 minutes or anime above a PG13 rating, I decided against it (I might still make that AMV some day). But the next song that stood out to me was Heavy Burden, and as I had recently watched Trigun Stampede, I found that it fit very well.

It's interesting to compare this to my AMV "The Circle Breaks" which uses the original Trigun anime. In that AMV I also show a lot of Vash's past and his conflict with his brother. And while the vibe of that one is a bit different, the themes and ideas are pretty similar.

I experimented with some effects in this AMV that I hadn't used before. A lot of layering of clips at different opacity settings, some distortion and color effects, some lip syncing, and even some masking. I think they turned out pretty well, and fit the style of the song.

Overall I'm happy with how this AMV came out. It's one of those AMVs that just seemed to fall into place as soon as I started working on it, and was relatively quick to complete. I had the deadline of the Anime Boston AMV contest encouraging me, and I finished it in time, but I didn't feel that I rushed it in any way.
