Comments restored because this is the best thing in the world:
This video is what I call "experimental."
I guess it's a god damn good thing that I didn't have to edit it, At all.
Iin the IRC channel, it's becoming a regular event that we have an Iron Chef every weekend. Now, I've had this idea floating in my head, and I decided last weekend (11/11/05) would be the perfect method to unleash the idea. See, the song "Improvise" by Jurassic 5 is about freestyling. I wanted to take the song and make it into an Iron Chef MEP, seeing as how the lyrics are actually relevant to the whole idea of on-the-spot thinking.
If I've lost you now, then just don't bother reading the rest, because I'm about to get a lot less coherent.
So, in order to see my dream of the blend of improvisational AMVs and hip-hop, I had to have guinea pigs. See, since I was already familiar with the song, I couldn't just time myself and edit the entire song. That wouldn't be fair. What I needed was unwitting participants who would make the parts for me, so I could string it together. I managed to sucker four guys into doing it: Decoy, Fall_Child42, GloryQuestor, and Kitsuner. Perfect number, because there are four MCs in the song, so I decided that each editor would edit the segments by an assigned MC, and then all four of them would do all the "choral" parts (that is, the parts where all four MCs are rapping together), so that I could weave their clips together myself.
So this is where it starts getting complicated.
The IC event was actually on a Friday night. During that time, I am obligated to leave my dorm room and slay ogres or something like that. So, I cut up all the audio beforehand, wrote up some instructions in notepad, and got a lackey from elsewhere to distribute the files at the appropriate time. I later found out that my instructions were entirely too vague for the participants. They had no idea what to do with the segments labeled "everyone0X.mp3" (with X ranging from 1 to 5), so they ended up splitting up THOSE clips, and giving the surplus to Kristyrat. When I returned, they uploaded various clips of various framerates, framesizes, and formats to me, when I had specifically instructed otherwise.
Now it's become a lot more complicated on my parts.
I figured I was going to bite the bullet, chew the shit, and hammer out the project in the face of technical difficulties. It couldn't be too hard to work my way around this shit, right? Wrong. It turned out that EVERY SINGLE CLIP Decoy uploaded caused Premiere to crash. Every single one. After spending my entire Saturday trying to figure out what the hell was wrong, I gave up and declared the project dead.
Okay, that's a lie.
I bullied Fall_Child into finishing it for me. I don't know, nor do I really care how he managed to patch it together, but he did it. The way he handled transitions was slightly different from my vision, but I can't really complain seeing as how he managed to actually export something, in contrast to my big fat nothing.
The final result is this. You are now looking down the barrel of a video that was edited by four guys in the same four hours and patched together with a lot of elbow grease. Remember, the theme of the song is lyricizing impromptu, and the theme of the video is editing impromptu. If you can really understand what this video really is, you should be able to appreciate it. If not, you're going to ask what the hell you just watched.
Such is the story of my greatest video that I never edited.
Also, it should be noted that I appear roughly fifty bajillion times in this video, because all five editors decided they hated me for assigned rap for an IC.
For those who are curious, here's a breakdown of who edited what:
FallChild_42: Azumanga Daioh, Fist of the North Star, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Haibane Renmei
Kitsuner: Cromartie High School
GloryQuestor: Slayers
Decoy: Guilty Gear X, Colorful
Finally, here are some lyrics. No, they're not the lyrics to the actual song. They're the lyrics to "Experimental Film" by They Might Be Giants, because that song is somehow more relevant to the video than the actual video's song itself.
The color of infinity
Inside an empty glass
I'm squinting my eye
And turning off and on and on
and off the light
It's for this experimental film
Which nobody knows about and which
I'm still figuring out what's going to go
In my experimental film
Yeah, you're all gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it
I already know how great it's
I already know the ending
It's the part that makes your face implode
I don't know what makes your face implode
But that's the way the movie ends
And in my experimental film
Which nobody knows about but which
I'm still figuring out your face implodes
At my experimental film
Yeah, you're all gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it
I already know how great it--
Even though I can't explain it
I already know how great it's
The color of infinity
Inside an empty glass
It's for this experimental film
Which nobody knows about and which
I'm still figuring out what's going to go
In my experimental film
Yeah, you're all gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it
I already know how great it's gonna--
Yeah, you're gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it
I already know how great it--
Even though I can't explain it
I already know how great it's
